1st week

Hi there your probably wondering why your reading my blog this week ive been planning my silver arts award project named Music through the ages. my aim is To research and create different pieces of music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s using (within practical limits) the technology of that era.

I've thought about what I want to achieve in my Arts Award challenge and this is the title I have come up with.

"I want to Improve my knowledge and skills in studio production and music history (and playing skills) ie piano, through the creation of 4 tracks from different decades. To do this I will need to research the limitations imposed by technology and the recording process and use those limitations in creating my tracks."

This will include being able to use deeper aspects of the recording software Reaper that I use at the studio

  1. HI Freddy, I had lots of fun learning how to play Hound Dog in the studio today it's a really fun Rock'n'Roll piece to play. Before Our next session in the studio I'd like you to write about the session today and what you learnt from it. I'd also like you to find some information about recording technics in the 50's. What's really important is that having read about recording you blog about what you've learnt and how it effects what and how we record our peice. What limitations will it impose? Post links to the information you find or pictures. Look forward to next week. Oh and practice the piece and remember your memory stick!

    Regards

  4. A fantastic start to your Blog Freddy - really good research and I particularly liked your reflection on your strengths and weaknesses - more of this please combined with what you enjoyed and what you didn't. This week we spent the morning setting up and recording our version of Hound Dog using the limitations of a recording studio in the 50's. I'd like you to blog about today and tell me your thoughts about what you learnt, how it went and how you felt about it.

Well done - Today was a blast and I think we achieved an awful lot under pressure - just like they would have had to do in a 50s recording session. Well doine again!.

  5. Hi Freddy,

I've listened to your 'Hound Dog' track and thought it was excellent. It sounded really authentically '50s and I was amazed by your vocals. I'm so pleased that your project is going well and you seem to be thoroughly enjoying it.

Can't wait to hear the next track!
